No New Notifications is an interactive video installation about online missed-connections designed to evoke the meditative sensation of laying on a beach watching waves crash ashore. Visitors are invited to lounge on a beach chair and interact with a computer program that transforms a short film into streams of wave-like visuals that quickly cascade offscreen. Each mouse click brings a new tide of information, populating the screen with a new instance of the video.

In order to watch the entire short film, viewers must stay engaged and keep clicking or else they will miss pieces of the narrative. This interaction parodies the way in which tech companies profit by maximizing the time and attention users spend on their products. No New Notifications challenges the attention economy at its own game, insisting that you must actively work towards meaningful communication amid the relentless streams of digital media vying for our gaze.
